This July: World Day Against Trafficking in Persons
Mark your calendars: July 30th is World Day Against Trafficking in Persons. Human trafficking involves the use of force, fraud, or coercion to obtain labor or commercial sex acts. Every year, millions of men, women, and children are trafficked worldwide – including right here in the United States.
This World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, here are a few simple things you can do to prepare yourself and your community to recognize and report human trafficking:

Learn the indicators of human trafficking. Recognizing key indicators of human trafficking is the first step in identifying victims. Keeping an eye out can help save a life.

Add the Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Tip Line and National Human Trafficking Hotline numbers to your phone, in case you are in a position to report suspected human trafficking. Call 1-866-347-2423 to report human trafficking activity to the HSI Tip Line 24 hours a day, seven days a week, every day of the year. For victim assistance, call the National Human Trafficking Hotline, call 1-888-373-7888 or text HELP or INFO to BeFree (233733).

Download or order our human trafficking awareness resources, which includes posters, toolkits, and indicator cards. These resources can be used in your workplace or community to help raise awareness of how to recognize and report this crime.

New Partnership Will Educate Campus Law Enforcement
Blue Campaign is proud to announce its partnership with The International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA), the largest professional association devoted to excellence in campus public safety and law enforcement. This partnership will provide IACLEA members with training and resources to combat human trafficking. IACLEA had previously helped develop Blue Campaign materials for campus police and public safety; these materials provide a basic overview of human trafficking awareness, an explanation of different types of human trafficking, and methods to avert victimization and to prevent human trafficking crimes from occurring.
Through close collaboration over the last year, IACLEA and Blue Campaign have created a Recognition and Response Guide and an indicator card for campus law enforcement and public safety officials. Through this vital partnership, Blue Campaign will reach IACLEA’s more than 4,200 members, who represent more than 1,000 institutions of higher education.
EEOC Collects More Than $4.8 Million on Judgment in Labor Trafficking Case Against Maui Pineapple for Thai Farmworkers (JD Supra)
The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) announced in May that $4.8 million has been recovered to satisfy a judgment in a national origin and race discrimination lawsuit brought by the EEOC against Maui Pineapple. The EEOC brought the case to combat labor trafficking as a civil rights violation under Title VII.
CBP Issues Withhold Release Order on Chinese Fishing Fleet (DHS)
Secretary Mayorkas announced that U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) issued a Withhold Release Order against Dalian Ocean Fishing Co., Ltd. based on information that reasonably indicates the use of forced labor in the entity’s fishing operations.
