USDA Rural Development Invests $25B to Strengthen Rural Communities Nationwide, Includes $1.2B for Rural Texas
(Temple, Texas, October 14, 2026) — The U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development recently announced nearly $25 billion in rural community investments nationwide in fiscal year 2026. These projects strengthen essential infrastructure, expand housing and business opportunities, and ensure rural families and farmers have the tools they need to succeed.
In Texas, Rural Development invested more than $1.2 billion in loans and grants in fiscal year 2026 to support these efforts.
“Thanks to the leadership of the Trump-Vance Administration and Secretary Brooke Rollins, USDA is delivering meaningful investments that support the growth and prosperity of rural America, and Texans are seeing the benefits firsthand in their communities,” said USDA Rural Development Texas State Director James Redfield. “From improving water systems and modernizing the electric grid to supporting education, public safety, housing, and small businesses, these projects are creating lasting opportunities for rural communities. I am especially grateful to the dedicated team at USDA Rural Development Texas, whose hard work and commitment to service help make investments like these possible for rural families, businesses, and communities across our state.”
These nationwide investments support local priorities in Texas and deliver real results for rural residents, farmers, businesses, and communities, including:
- $645 million in Rural Development Single Family and Multifamily Housing Program funding across Texas, expanding access to safe, affordable, and reliable housing for rural families
- $310 million in Rural Development Business Program funding across Texas, supporting small business growth and job creation in rural communities
- $11 million in Rural Development Community Facilities Program funding across Texas, helping rural communities develop and improve critical facilities
- $104 million in Rural Development Water and Environmental Program funding across Texas, helping rural communities address drinking water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure needs.
The investments mark only the beginning of USDA’s commitment to deliver resources that communities can rely on to improve their quality of life. Focusing on the needs of rural America helps build more resilient communities across the nation.
