Housing Preservation Grant – Notice of Funding Opportunity
WASHINGTON, DC, August 6, 2025 - U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development's Rural Housing Service announces the availability of funding under the Fiscal Year 2025 Section 533 Housing Preservation Grant (HPG) Notice of Funding Opportunity was published in the Federal Register on Tuesday, August 5, 2025.
The HPG program provides grants to qualified organizations to repair or rehabilitate homes, rental properties or co-ops occupied by low- and very-low-income residents in rural areas. Eligible applicants are organizations which include most State or local governmental entities, federally recognized Indian tribes, nonprofit, and faith-based organizations.
In addition to regular program funding, $2,100,000 remains available from funding received under the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2023 to help people repair homes they own or rent that were damaged by a Presidentially declared disaster in calendar year 2022.

Properties proposed for repair must have sustained damage in a Presidentially declared disaster in calendar year 2022. A list maintained by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is available at this link: FEMA Website. In the dropdown boxes on that webpage, select the year 2022, and then choose “Major Disaster Declaration” or “Fire Management Assistance Declaration” as the declaration type.

Preapplications may be submitted to the Rural Development State Offices. The closing deadline for receipt of all paper or electronic preapplications is September 4, 2025.
