NEW Application Process for 2025!
All applications must be submitted via the online portal. Paper applications will not be accepted.
The objective of the Value-Added Producer Grant (VAPG) program is to assist viable for-profit agricultural producers, agricultural producer groups, farmer and rancher cooperatives, and majority-controlled producer-based businesses in starting or expanding value-added activities related to the processing and/or marketing of value-added agricultural products.
VAPG is for agricultural producers that produce and own more than 50% of the agricultural commodity that will be used to produce the value-added product. Agricultural producers must also participate in the day-to-day labor, management, and field operations.
Grant and matching funds can be used for planning activities or for working capital expenses directly related to the processing and/or marketing of post-harvest value-added products. The VAPG program has a dollar-for-dollar matching funds requirement.
Examples of raw commodities turned into a value-added product include livestock into packaged meat; wheat into flour; wool into clothing; clover into honey.
Planning Grant (max. $75,000): Pay a qualified third-party consultant to conduct and develop a feasibility study, business plan and/or marketing plan on an existing or proposed value-added agricultural product.
Working Capital Grant (max. $250,000): Help cover the day-to-day expenses associated with producing and marketing a post-harvest value-added agricultural product. Examples of eligible uses of funds include processing; packaging; labeling; distribution; advertising; promotional materials; ingredients; some salaries.
VAPG program has a dollar-for-dollar matching funds requirement.
VAPG is a nationwide competition for funds!
At application, each applicant must have an active registration in SAM.gov. Visit the System for Award Management (SAM) webpage to complete your registration. If you are already registered at SAM.gov, you do not need to reapply. Neither SAM registration nor applying for the VAPG program cost money, but they can take time.
VAPG has a new application portal that can be accessed here, along with a user guide.
