USDA Invests $9.1 Million to Strengthen Rural Infrastructure in Pennsylvania
HARRISBURG, Pa., Dec. 10, 2024 – U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) State Director for Rural Development Bob Morgan today announced that USDA is investing $9.1 million for sewer projects in two rural communities.
“These investments will help build modern infrastructure that will attract employers to the nation’s smallest towns and most remote communities, creating jobs, vibrant Main Streets, and lasting economic growth for the people who live there,” Morgan said.
The two projects are being funded through the Water and Waste Disposal Loans and Grants program.
South Hanover Township Sewer Authority received a loan of $8.35 million to install a sewer collection and conveyance system in the Crestview Manor, Sand Beach, and Pleasant View areas. The improvements are a combination of gravity sewer lines and grinder pumps with low-pressure sewer lines. A new pump station will also be constructed in this project. The Crestview Manor and Pleasant View project areas will be conveyed via the existing joint use interceptor line to the Swatara Township Authority treatment plant. The Sand Beach area will be conveyed via the new pump station and force main to the South Hanover Township Sewer Authority system. This flow is ultimately conveyed to the Derry Township Municipal Authority's treatment plant.
