The USDA BioPreferred® Program website offers a variety of useful training programs and resources, designed to help you improve your understanding of:

• Federal requirements for purchasing biobased products
• Categories of biobased products that receive preferred Federal purchasing
• How Federal contractors, contracting officers, acquisition professionals, technical staff, and purchase card holders can easily identify and purchase biobased products
• The Contracting Officer’s role and responsibility in reporting biobased product purchases.

The BioPreferred Program recently released two new courses as part of its ongoing efforts to educate acquisition professionals on biobased product purchasing requirements. They include:

• Fundamentals: Biobased Products and the USDA BioPreferred Program is a web-based training program designed to introduce the learner to biobased products, the federal procurement preference for biobased products, and the voluntary certification and labeling initiative. Course includes interactive opportunities, knowledge checks, and short videos.
• Incorporating Biobased Product Purchasing Requirements in Your Service and Construction Contracts is a web-based training program designed for federal acquisition professionals.

The Training and Resources page also offers guidance and support to biobased businesses that want to tap into the Federal marketplace. The Federal Government spends billions of dollars each year on products and supplies that meet biobased purchasing requirements. If their products perform well and are cost-competitive, businesses that sell these in-demand products and supplies can build and strengthen their revenue streams.

The USDA BioPreferred Program is the federal government’s official market accelerator for biobased products. Its primary goals are to increase the development, purchase, and use of biobased products; support rural communities; and contribute to a growing and thriving bioeconomy.
