We recently celebrated Public Service Recognition Week, which has been celebrated the first week of May since 1985 to honor the individuals who serve our nation as federal, state, county, local and tribal government employees.
Since starting my appointment in February, I have been consistently impressed by the competence and dedication of our Rural Development employees in Wyoming. On one of my first days on the job while still getting oriented, Lorraine Werner, Wyoming’s Community Programs Director, told me that “our job is to help people and solve problems.”
The statement was short and simple, but made an impact on me. I have adopted this mindset as the foundation for how Rural Development strives to conduct business in Wyoming.
Rural Developments programs cover a diverse array of areas including housing; community facility infrastructure including water and wastewater; business diversification; business planning; renewable energy; high-speed internet, value-added agricultural and more. Many of these are pressing needs in Wyoming and are fundamental to the quality of life and prosperity of our rural communities.
Rural Development employees work to have a deep knowledge of not only the programs they oversee, but also programs outside their work area, even if they are administered by an outside organization.
We want to see our rural community's projects succeed regardless of if this occurs through a Rural Development program, another program, or a partnership. Any role we can play, we view as a success, so please contact us if you have a need or project in your community.
Public service is an honor. Helping local businesses and communities reach their goals provides deep job satisfaction. I feel blessed to have such a great Rural Development team in accomplishing our mission. We hope we have an opportunity to work on a project in your community.
Your State Director, Glenn Pauley
