Clarification on System for Award Management (SAM) Registration Requirements for Approved Lenders
What is SAM? The System for Award Management (SAM.gov) is an official website of the U.S. Government. There is no cost to use SAM.gov. You can use this site to:
- Register to do business with the U.S. Government
- Update, renew, or check the status of your entity registration
- Search for entity registration and exclusion records
- Access publicly available award data via data extracts and system accounts
Is there any cost to register in SAM? No, there is no cost to use or register in SAM.
Why are approved lenders now required to register? The Office of Management and Budget issued a revision to 2 CFR Part 25, PART 25, UNIVERSAL IDENTIFIER AND SYSTEM FOR AWARD MANAGEMENT, which requires SAM screening and registration for all program participants, including new and existing approved Single Family Housing Guaranteed Loan Program (SFHGLP) lenders and loan servicers.
Who is required to complete the SAM registration? New and existing SFHGLP lenders and loan servicers are required to register in SAM.GOV.
IMPORTANT UPDATE: Are principal officers of approved lenders required to complete the SAM registration? No, the principal officers of approved lenders are not required to register.
When do approved lenders have to register by? Existing approved SFHGLP lenders and loan servicers are required to provide documentation of SAM.GOV registration at the time of their next lender approval recertification. The Lender Oversight Branch will initiate contact at that time and provide guidance. There is no action required by you at this time. Lenders may contact USDA’s Lender Oversight branch with questions regarding their recertification.
