Expiration of the Foreclosure Moratorium and Extension of Foreclosure Related Eviction Moratorium in Connection with the Presidentially Declared COVID-19 National Emergency
PURPOSE
The purpose of this notice is to inform that U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development is extending its moratorium on evictions through September 30, 2021 for Single Family Housing Direct Loan Program. The foreclosure moratorium remains unchanged and will expire on July 31, 2021.
Effective Date
The extension of the eviction moratorium is effective immediately for all USDA direct loan mortgages except for vacant or abandoned properties.
Background
The foreclosure moratorium will expire on July 31, 2021, and the Agency will not be extending that moratorium further. To avoid displacement of distressed borrowers and allow them time to access suitable housing options after foreclosure, USDA is extending the foreclosure related eviction moratorium initially announced on March 19, 2020. This extension will provide borrowers additional time to access federal, state or local resources available for support. Foreclosure-related evictions of persons from properties securing USDA mortgages, excluding legally vacant or abandoned properties, are suspended through September 30, 2021.
