Illegal sale of monkey over Craigslist sends Houston woman to prison
A Texas woman has been sentenced for selling wildlife, including a spider monkey, in violation of the Lacey Act. She was ordered to serve 15 months in federal prison to be immediately followed by three years of supervised release. The court considered that the woman was previously sentenced to two years of supervised release for smuggling a monkey into the United States and high-speed flight from an immigration checkpoint. The court revoked her supervised release in that case, and she received another month to run consecutively with this prison term.
