A Tulare County, California man was sentenced to seven years and three months in prison for selling firearms without a license and conspiring to violate the Animal Welfare Act by selling gamecocks and participating in cockfighting events. This case was the product of an investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the U.S. Department of Agriculture-Office of Inspector General with assistance from the California Highway Patrol and the Fresno Police Department Multi-Agency Gang Enforcement Consortium (MAGEC).

An Independence, Louisiana, man was sentenced to 12 months and one day in prison followed by three years supervised release, with the special condition that he complete 30 hours of community service, for possession of animals in an animal fighting venture. In October 2017, federal law enforcement executed a search warrant on the man's residence and found a dogfighting pit surrounded by discarded beverage containers, seven pit bulls restrained using heave chains, a device to pry open the jaws of a dog involved in a dogfight and veterinary equipment.

A Fort Valley, Georgia, resident involved in two separate drug trafficking organizations and a multi-state dog fighting operation based in Middle Georgia was sentenced to serve more than 15 years in prison, the final defendant of 21 co-conspirators resulting from two Organized Crime and Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) investigations. |
