Agriculture Acting Deputy Secretary Scuse to Speak at University of Arkansas for First USDA Fall Forum

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark., August 26, 2016 – On Monday, U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Acting Deputy Secretary Michael T. Scuse will deliver keynote remarks at the University of Arkansas to kick off the USDA New Farmers and Land Tenure Fall Forum. The keynote is open to members of the media and invited participants, and Scuse will hold a press availability after his remarks.

Earlier this month, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced the USDA Fall Forum series to highlight the progress made on the top issues facing the future of agriculture and set the stage for the next Administration to continue to support a strong future for American agriculture. Each Forum will be hosted in partnership with a leading university and focus on a different agricultural issue. The USDA New Farmers and Land Tenure Fall Forum hosted at the University of Arkansas is the first in the series and will focus on the next generation of agriculture and land tenure issues.

With the average age of the American farmer exceeding 58 years, USDA recognizes the need to bring more people into agriculture. Over the course of this Administration, USDA has engaged its resources to provide greater support to the farmers of the future by improving access to land and capital; building new markets and market opportunities; extending new conservation opportunities; offering appropriate risk management tools; and increasing outreach, education, and technical support.
