NIFA Invests $1.92 Million in Grants to Launch the Farm and Ranch Stress Assistance Network
NIFA recently announced $1.92 million in four competitive grants supporting projects to provide stress assistance programs to support individuals who are engaged in farming, ranching, and other agriculture-related occupations. These projects were awarded to four regional entities to help launch the Farm and Ranch Stress Assistance Network. Funding for the grants comes from the Farm and Ranch Stress Assistance Network program, authorized by the 2018 Farm Bill. Read the full NIFA announcement.

USDA Honors 25 Years of Tribal Land-Grant Universities and their Contributions
The U.S. Department of Agriculture honored the 25th anniversary of the legislation that recognized 29 tribal colleges and universities as land-grant institutions. Signed on October 20, 1994, the Equity in Educational Land-Grant Status Act enabled tribal colleges and universities to receive federal support and train the next generation of agricultural professionals. 4-H Giant Clover 3D Printing Collaborative Project
The Golden Hills 4-H of Petaluma California is developing a collaborative 3D printed giant clover of 4-H clubs around the world. The Golden Hills 4-H's Robotics designed a 3D model of a giant clover, using special software to break it up into smaller individually printable pieces, like a puzzle. The club will send the 3D printing file for each piece to any participating club. In turn that 4-H club will 3D print their puzzle piece and ship it back to us for the final 4-H Giant Clover assembly. Nominations Open for Agriculture Advisory Committee Vacancies
USDA is accepting nominations from qualified fruit and vegetable industry members to fill vacancies on the Fruit and Vegetable Industry Advisory Committee. The FVIAC provides advice and recommendations to the Secretary of Agriculture on issues of importance to the produce industry. Qualified candidates may nominate themselves, or someone can nominate another candidate who is interested, qualified, and agrees to the nomination. Nomination packages including a cover letter to the Secretary, the nominee’s typed resume or curriculum vitae, and a completed USDA Advisory Committee Membership Background Information Form AD–755 must be postmarked on or before Nov. 21. NIFA, Research Partners Announce Winners of Awards for Excellence in Agricultural Research, Leadership and Diversity
The Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities and NIFA recently announced the recipients of their excellence in agricultural research awards. The awards honor research excellence in three categories – National Excellence in Multistate Research, Excellence in Research Leadership, and National Experiment Station Section Diversity and Inclusion. APLU, NIFA, and the Experiment Station Section of APLU’s Board on Agriculture Assembly present the awards annually. Read the full NIFA announcement.

NIFA Invests $1.8 Million in Methyl Bromide Transition Research and Outreach
NIFA announced five Methyl Bromide Transition awards that will improve the management of major pests impacting U.S. strawberry production, vegetable production, and the wood products industry. The multi-tactic research and extension outcomes from these awards will result in the development of integrated, sustainable and economically viable management strategies targeting major pests impacting these production systems. The Methyl Bromide Transition program seeks to solve significant pest problems in key agricultural production and post-harvest management systems, processing facilities, and transport systems for which methyl bromide has been withdrawn. These grants are part of NIFA’s Methyl Bromide Transition Program, Integrated Activities.
NIFA Invests $800,000 in K-14 Agriculture Education
NIFA recently announced seven awards to promote and strengthen agriculture in the K-14 classrooms, as well as strengthen secondary and two-year post-secondary agriculture education. These SPECA program awards will encourage more young Americans to pursue and complete baccalaureate or higher degrees in the food, agriculture, natural resources, and human sciences; in order to help bolster the workforce in the food, agriculture, and related sector.
NIFA Invests $1.9 Million to Build Capacity in Cooperative Extension at the 1994 Tribal Land-Grant Colleges
NIFA recently announced 10 grants to 1994 Tribal Land Grant Colleges to deliver science-based, culturally relevant extension education programs designed to address public needs and improve the quality of life of their clientele. Through the Tribal College Research Grant Program funding, the 1994 Land-Grants touch the lives of reservation youth, farmers and families with activities that enhance health, promote prosperity and support learning.
NIFA Invests $2 Million for Community-Based Solutions for Children, Youth, and Families at Risk
NIFA recently announced 21 grants, made through the Children, Youth, and Families at Risk (CYFAR) program, to improve the quality and quantity of comprehensive community-based programs for at-risk children, youth, and families supported by the Cooperative Extension System. The CYFAR program mission is to marshal resources of the Land-Grant and Cooperative Extension Systems to develop and deliver educational programs that equip limited resource families and youth who are at-risk for not meeting basic human needs with the skills they need to lead positive, productive, contributing lives.
NIFA Invests $1,473,596 for Resident Instruction Grants for Insular Areas
NIFA recently announced eight grants that will strengthen the capacity of Land Grant Colleges in insular areas to carry out resident instruction, curriculum, and teaching programs in the food, agriculture, natural resources and human sciences (FANH). These grants will also help institutions to upgrade agriculture and food science facilities, and equipment necessary to conduct tropical and subtropical agricultural research. NIFA Invests Over $960,000 in Nutrition and Agriculture Service Learning
NIFA recently announced support for five awards that will increase the knowledge of agriculture, improve the nutritional health of children, and increase the capacity for food, garden, and nutrition education. The Food and Agriculture Service Learning Program brings together stakeholders from the distinct parts of the food system and fosters community engagement between farms and local schools. The program complements other farm to school and school nutrition efforts conducted by other USDA agencies.
