NIFA Supports Federal Initiative to Combat Antimicrobial Resistance
This week is World Antibiotic Awareness Week and USDA remains focused on prolonging
the usefulness of a very precious resource—antibiotics. Antibiotics are type of
antimicrobial drug that specifically kills or inhibits bacteria. These and other
antimicrobial drugs
(antimicrobials) are important for preventing, controlling, and treating
diseases that harmful microorganisms (bacteria, fungi, viruses, and parasites)
cause in humans, food animals, and plants. View the full infographic on our website.
