The Natural Resources Conservation Service produces this weekly report using data and products from the National Water and Climate Center and other agencies. The report focuses on seasonal snowpack, precipitation, temperature, and drought conditions in the U.S.
A snowstorm of historic proportions brought record-breaking snowfall to the southern U.S. coastal regions between January 20-21. The National Weather Service issued blizzard warnings in parts of Texas and Louisiana for the first time in history. Over 10 inches of snow fell in some locations, along with sustained winds of over 35 miles per hour. Blowing snow caused reduced visibility and hazardous road conditions in the region. Many of the affected areas accumulated more snow during the event than has been observed in 130 years.
