Maps are Ready!

The 2022 acreage reporting maps are available for Griggs County producers to pick up at the Cooperstown office or they can also be sent to you via e-mail.   Please email us at ndcooperst-fsa@usda.gov if you would like your maps emailed. Due to budget constraints, we are no longer mailing maps.

Livestock Indemnity Program (LIP)

If the recent blizzard resulted in a loss of livestock in your operation, the livestock losses may be eligible for benefits under the Livestock Indemnity Program (LIP). The LIP program provides benefits for eligible livestock deaths in excess of normal mortality, that are a direct result of an eligible loss condition.

Producers that suffer a loss of livestock must submit a notice of loss to FSA within 30 days of when the livestock loss is apparent.  Losses can be reported via phone, however, additional evidence of the loss as well as inventory records will eventually be required to support applications for payment. Please provide the date of occurrence and type of weather event that caused the deaths, livestock type/weight, date the loss became apparent, location of livestock at the time of death, and the current location of livestock.

When you file an application for payment, you will be required to provide documentation that supports the beginning inventory of the livestock and number of livestock deaths by type/category.  Suggested records that would support the application may include:

  • Contemporaneous records such as calving book and/or calendar with birth and death dates.
  • Pictures of deceased livestock (date included with picture file)
  • Veterinary records to document inventory such as PG tests
  • Tax records
  • Insurance documents
  • Bank or other loan documents

Please review the LIP Fact Sheet or call the FSA Office for additional information on the LIP Program.

2022 ELAP Feed Transportation Program

The ELAP program offers assistance to producers who hauled livestock feed above normal due to the 2021 drought.  Livestock producers that continued to haul feed into the 2022 calendar year may be eligible for assistance for transportation costs in excess of normal that occurred between January 1, 2022 and April 15, 2022.

Producers should contact FSA immediately to report the additional feed transportation costs in excess of normal.

Applying for FSA Direct Loans

FSA offers direct farm ownership and direct farm operating loans to producers who want to establish, maintain, or strengthen their farm or ranch. Direct loans are processed, approved and serviced by FSA loan officers.

Direct farm operating loans can be used to purchase livestock and feed, farm equipment, fuel, farm chemicals, insurance, and other costs including family living expenses. Operating loans can also be used to finance minor improvements or repairs to buildings and to refinance some farm-related debts, excluding real estate.

Direct farm ownership loans can be used to purchase farmland, enlarge an existing farm, construct and repair buildings, and to make farm improvements.

The maximum loan amount for direct farm ownership loans is $600,000 and the maximum loan amount for direct operating loans is $400,000 and a down payment is not required. Repayment terms vary depending on the type of loan, collateral and the producer's ability to repay the loan. Operating loans are normally repaid within seven years and farm ownership loans are not to exceed 40 years.

Please contact the Traill County FSA Office at 701-436-5101 for more information or to apply for a direct farm ownership or operating loan.
