The California Farm Service Agency (FSA) office is looking for a minimum of two qualified candidates to join our crop adjuster team. Interested persons must apply by December 1, 2021.
Location: Loss Adjusters use their residence as headquarters. All locations encouraged to apply.
FT/ PT: Hours vary, depends on number of inspections performed, season and occurrence of damaging weather events. Loss adjusters set their own hours and schedule.
Compensation: $13.64/ hr. during training. After training $19.75/ hr., after one year out of training $21.97/ hr.
Loss adjusters perform work as independent contractors.
Duties as an Agricultural Crop Loss Adjuster: • Perform farm visits for the purpose of appraising damaged or destroyed crops during the growing season or following harvest for all related loss adjustment activities. • Loss Adjusters will gather required facts during the visit and will be responsible for writing reports based on their observations during site visits. • Work is performed regionally based on geographic location of the selectee. • Overnight travel may be required on occasion to reach distant farms and/or for program training.
Physical demands of the position include exposure to uncomfortable or inclement weather (heat, cold, rain, snow, etc.) and the ability to walk fields for the purpose of inspecting crops for extended periods of time.
Required Skills & Abilities: A genuine interest in agriculture and the crop growing and harvest cycle, ability to learn and follow established appraisal methods, ability to operate a GPS unit, a digital camera, ability to travel overnight (weekends are acceptable), reliable transportation and basic computer literacy required. Actual crop loss adjustment experience is not required
