On July 13, 2021,  Secretary Vilsack announced the Administration will be implementing the Pandemic Livestock Indemnity Program (PLIP) to provide assistance to livestock and poultry owners for losses of livestock and poultry depopulated from March 1, 2020, through December 26, 2020, due to insufficient processing access during the COVID-19 pandemic, and for the cost of depopulation and disposal.  PLIP signup will begin on Tuesday (7/20/21) through September 17, 2021.  Eligible livestock and poultry include swine, chickens, and turkeys because USDA has determined that producers of these livestock and poultry types suffered losses and incurred costs for depopulation due to insufficient processing access during the COVID-19 pandemic.  Eligible livestock must have been depopulated from March 1, 2020 - December 26, 2020 due to insufficient processing access.  Eligible livestock and poultry producers apply for PLIP by completing the FSA-620 (application) and other eligibility documents and submitting it to the FSA county office.  For more information about the PLIP program, visit farmers.gov/plip or contact the Suffolk FSA office.
