National Hispanic Heritage Month is underway.
In 1981, the USDA's Extension Service partnered with Hispanic teenagers in Dixon, California, to hold the first Celebración de Jovenes—Celebration of Youth, a day of cultural exchange. The festival brought together members of the Street Life low rider car club and local 4-H groups for educational demonstrations on car maintenance, bike safety, and animal husbandry. The event also included a car show, career fair, and traditional Mexican dance performances.
Read more about the festival and other contributions from Hispanic Americans in the Extension Service Review, editions of which have been digitized for NAL's online collections.
