Did you know that avocados are experiencing a major surge in popularity? The USDA Economic Research Service reported a 300% increase in avocado availability over the past 20 years. This surge in demand is also reflected in avocados being one of the Top 5 Searched Foods on Nutrition.gov. Be sure to access Nutrition.gov to find avocado nutrition tips and recipes.

Explore PubAg for an in-depth look at USDA-funded research on how avocados influence blood glucose control, cardiovascular health, and body weight. Visit our Food Composition page for avocado nutrient profiles, information on healthy fats and other essential nutrients, and details about the USDA’s avocado research and promotion programs.

For a historical perspective, check out the 1937 USDA Radio Service broadcast titled The Avocado Wins American Favor from our Historical Dietary Guidance Digital Collection. This program discusses the nutritional value of avocados, offers tips for buying the best ones, and highlights the USDA’s early efforts in promoting avocado cultivation.
