Dear ARS Postdocs,

The PDAC Career Development Committee's Training Task Force is pleased to invite you to attend a special workshop over Zoom!

 

This virtual event will feature former PDAC chair and current career coach, Dr. Stephanie Pearl, for a special career development workshop on navigating your career journey to find meaningful work that fits you well. This live 3-hour interactive workshop will involve presentations, guided activities, breakout group discussions, and Q&A sessions. We invite you arrive with your cameras on and ready to engage!

 

By participating in this workshop, you will:

  • Identify your values and consider other facets of a job important to you in your work.
  • Identify career “experiments” for testing different career paths.
  • Gain insights and resources to help you conduct informational interviews.
  • Create a plan for developing and cultivating a network of mentors, sponsors, and other advisors to support your career advancement.
  • Learn the fundamentals of growth mindset and its importance along the career journey.

Dr. Stephanie Pearl, founder and principal of Adaptive Roots Consulting, works with individuals in the sciences to collaborate more effectively and find balance, authenticity, and impact in their careers. She offers career and executive coaching, workshop facilitation, and fractional executive services. In the latter role, Dr. Pearl currently serves as the interim executive director of the Alabama Sustainable Agriculture Network. She also advises startups through Alabama Launchpad, a competition of the Economic Development Partnership of Alabama.

 

Prior to founding Adaptive Roots Consulting, Dr. Pearl was an ORISE Fellow at ARS from 2017-2021. She was the founding chair of PDAC in 2020 and also worked closely with ARS headquarters leadership as she led a diverse portfolio that cut across science communication, strategic planning, project management, workshop facilitation, and organizational change management. Dr. Pearl received her PhD in Plant Biology from the University of Georgia in 2013, was a 2015-2017 Executive Branch AAAS Science & Technology Policy Fellow with the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture, and is a certified coach through the Coach Training Alliance.
