The Vacuum Fumigation Chamber located in the Miami FL Plant Inspection Station will be decommissioned on February 17, 2014. The decision by PPQ to discontinue this service is based on the following factors:
• The annual cost to maintain the chamber is a substantial.
• Based on FY2013 data, 99% of the fumigations performed in the chamber do not require a vacuum, but are done in Natural Atmospheric Pressure (NAP). Private contractors have the equipment to perform these types of treatments.
• There are PPQ approved fumigation contractors in close vicinity.
• The PPQ facility will be a safer work environment without Methyl Bromide gas stored and used in the facility.
• Removal of the equipment will increase warehouse space.
