Import Alert: Reclassification of the Yucatán Peninsula region, Mexico, to Level IV Status for Bovine Tuberculosis (TB)

Effective Date: April 1, 2026 

 

Effective April 1, 2026, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) Veterinary Services (VS) will reclassify the Yucatán Peninsula region of Mexico from Level III to Level IV status for bovine tuberculosis (TB). The Yucatán Peninsula region is comprised of the states of Yucatán, Quintana Roo, and Campeche (minus the municipality of Palizada).  

 

The list of regions APHIS has classified for bovine TB may be found on the USDA APHIS Animal Health Status of Regions website. The bovine TB requirements for importing bovines from a region classified as Level IV status are detailed in title 9, Code of Federal Regulations, part 93.439. Information pertaining to the import of Mexican cattle may be found at the USDA APHIS Importing Live Cattle and Bison From Mexico to the United States website.
