Import Alert:  Breeding Water Buffalo (Bubalus bubalis) and Yak (Bos grunniens) Now Eligible for Import from Canada into the United States 

 

Issuance Date: December 9, 2022 

Effective Date: Immediately       

               

Effective immediately, breeding water buffalo (Bubalus bubalis) and yak (Bos grunniens) are eligible for import from Canada. The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) requires an import permit for importation of these animals. The shipment must also be accompanied by a health certificate endorsed by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA). The importer/ transporter must contact the Northern Border Port of entry at least 14 days in advance to arrange inspection details if the animals are transported by land.
