Beginning in late September 2020, importers will be able to apply for and receive fresh fruit and vegetable import permits (PPQ 587) through APHIS eFile, APHIS’ new online permitting system. APHIS eFile will offer a simple and easy way to apply for and receive your fresh fruit and vegetable import permits, in many cases, within the same day! Until then, APHIS will continue issuing fresh fruit and vegetable import permits through ePermits.

All other PPQ 587 applications (e.g. frozen fruits and vegetables, seeds not for planting, plants for planting, etc.) will remain in ePermits for the foreseeable future. Depending on your permitting needs, you may need to use both APHIS eFile and ePermits to apply for your permits.

All fresh fruit and vegetable import permits issued through ePermits before the transition to APHIS eFile in late September will be valid until their expiration date and do not need to be transferred to APHIS eFile. In the coming weeks, we will provide additional information on APHIS eFile features and training.
