USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection’s (APHIS) Field Operations has temporarily modified our inspections process for live animal export facility renewals and animal product facilities. While APHIS aims to ensure personnel will be available to conduct import and export facility inspection as scheduled during the COVID-19 pandemic, APHIS’ priority is the safety and health of our employees and customers.
For live animal export facility renewal inspections, USDA-accredited veterinarians (who supervise approved facilities) will conduct renewal inspections. APHIS inspectors will then follow-up with onsite inspections once travel restrictions have been lifted. APHIS is also extending a grace period of up to 6 months for inspections of certain import and export animal product facilities. Eligibility is determined by relevant export health certificate language or bilaterally negotiated protocols.
For inspections to renew existing live animal export facility or animal product import or export facility approvals, please contact the VS Field Operations Office in your state for guidance.
These adjustments are effective immediately. This is a temporary measure with the expectation that inspection requirements will return to normal policy guidelines at an appropriate time.
