USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) is extending the comment period on the proposed rule that would amend U.S. import requirements to allow commercial consignments of lemons (Citrus limon) from Northwest Argentina produced under a systems approach. This action will allow interested parties additional time to prepare and submit comments.

The proposed systems approach would require a number of safeguards to be applied across the fruit production continuum to effectively mitigate the risk of pests of concern.

APHIS published the proposed rule on May 10, 2016; comments were due on or before July 11, 2016. At the request of many interested persons, APHIS has extended the comment period for 30 days to August 10, 2016.

APHIS will carefully review and consider all comments received before the close of the comment period. To make a comment or view the public comments on this rule, refer to the docket at https://www.regulations.gov/docket?D=APHIS-2014-0092
