Organic Enforcement:
Import Oversight Policies and Updates

As part of the Enforcement Action Plan, and building on recommendations from the Office of the Inspector General (OIG), the Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) National Organic Program (NOP) has released additional policy memos for importers and certifying agents, along with a report on the continued work to increase collaboration between federal partners at U.S. ports of entry.

NOP also recently published a Joint Letter clarifying requirements for Perishable Agricultural Commodities Act (PACA) licensees who import commodities that fumigated agricultural products may not be labeled or sold as organic in the United States.

NOP is committed to protecting the integrity of organic imports and maintaining a level playing field for the industry.
