March 2014          Issue: 4

The second annual Mayors Day of Recognition for National Service is on Tuesday! More than 1,750 mayors and city leaders across the country will visit service sites, host roundtables, and issue proclamations. All events focus on the three groups that benefit from national service: the recipients of service, the people who serve, and the larger community and nation.

You can help send the message that national service works! Here's what to do:

  1. Check out the full list of participating mayors.
  2. Thank your mayor for supporting AmeriCorps! Post on Facebook or Twitter using the hashtag #mayors4service.

Looking Ahead

Mayor Chris Coleman of St. Paul, Minn., NLC President; Wendy Spencer, CEO of CNCS; Mesa, Ariz. Mayor Scott Smith, U.S. Conference of Mayors President

Greetings alumni,

By now you are well aware that we're recognizing the 20th anniversary of AmeriCorps all this year. Over just the past few months, we have seen incredible things from both members and alums. Throughout March, many of you showed us how you have worked to create a healthier future for our nation. Take a moment to read about this extraordinary work.

For the month of April, we'll focus on Environmental Stewardship. If you have a great story to share about your service or what you do now in this field, please email pressoffice@cns.gov.

And don't forget to thank your mayor for supporting national service on your favorite social media network tomorrow!

Warmest Regards,

Wendy Spencer, CEO
Corporation for National and Community Service
