National Service Criminal History Check FAQ Update

Updated FAQs for Public Health AmeriCorps and September 11 National Day of Service Grants

AmeriCorps has updated National Service Criminal History Check FAQ 5.4 that was released on Friday, Nov. 18, to clarify that it is only applicable to VISTA Support and Program grants. AmeriCorps has added a new FAQ 5.4.1 for clarification on other grants.

Please review the updated FAQs on the Knowledge Network. Both FAQ 5.4 (applicable to VISTA) and FAQ 5.4.1 (applicable to other grants) address conducting criminal history checks for staff whose salaries are reflected solely on the “grantee share” column of AmeriCorps grant budgets.

The new FAQ 5.4.1 clarifies the need for grantees to conduct National Service Criminal History Checks for all staff performing activities on Public Health AmeriCorps grants, September 11 National Day of Service grants, certain AmeriCorps Seniors' Demonstration Program grants, and more.

To accommodate these updates, any Public Health AmeriCorps and September 11 National Day of Service grantees who had staff performing activities on the grant but have not conducted criminal history checks for those individuals must complete the National Service Criminal History Check and make an eligibility determination by Friday, March 10. Information on conducting the required criminal history checks is available on the Knowledge Network
