With the historic signing of the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, the Biden-Harris Administration signaled their strong vote of confidence in the power of national service to help communities meet critical needs. I am thrilled to inform you that the American Rescue Plan includes $80 million for AmeriCorps VISTA.
Under this funding, priorities for AmeriCorps VISTA include:
- Increasing the living stipend for eligible members from $13,399 to $15,002 and anticipate this going into effect mid-August 2021;
- Increasing Summer Associate programming in FY21 by adding 1,000 Summer Associate positions to address urgent COVID-related issues, prioritizing projects that focus on public health, food insecurity, and learning loss;
- Increasing the number of members serving for the next three fiscal years; and
- Expanding our reach to new communities in highest need and expanding our food insecurity initiative, using a program cohort model for participating sponsors and members.
We will release AmeriCorps VISTA’s annual program guidance with further details on these priorities this summer.
Nonprofit organizations, Native American Tribes, institutions of higher education, and state, city, and local government agencies seeking to build or expand an anti-poverty project are eligible to apply.
There is a two-step process for applying for AmeriCorps resources. First, a prospective sponsor submits a concept paper and if accepted, the organization is invited to submit an AmeriCorps application.
The FY2022 Request for Concept Papers includes the following due dates:
