January 20 marks the 25th year the Martin Luther King, Jr. federal holiday will be celebrated as a national day of service.
During the last quarter-century, the MLK Day of Service has grown in size and impact as more Americans embrace the idea that citizenship involves taking an active role to make our communities better. Serving on MLK Day can make volunteering a habit, improve the community, and build connections that can last a lifetime.
We hope you will join our effort to continue to raise awareness about this important day of service and help us engage your network and friends in service that helps communities. We encourage you to use our communications tools and share them with others who are joining in service to honor Dr. King.
Here are four things you could do to inspire service on King Day and beyond:
-
Engage in social media promoting the King Day of Service using #MLKDay and #DayON25 to honor the 25th anniversary. Sample social media posts can be found here.
- If you are part of a group that has planned a project, please register it so others will be inspired by your service. Or, if you are still looking for a place to serve, resources and information can be found at MLKDay.gov.
-
Share your King Day plans on social media using #MLKDay and #DayON25.
-
If you are able to serve on King Day, please share news about your service on social media using #MLKDay and #DayON25. And if you are serving with an organization that needs volunteers throughout the year, encourage your network to check out ongoing opportunities to volunteer.
We are looking forward to a great King holiday weekend and all the important service that will happen in his honor. If you have questions, please email us at MLKDay@cns.gov.
