April 4, 2017
On
April 4, 2017, 81 mayors, county commissioners, and other elected officials
across Ohio joined more than 4,500 elected officials across the country to thank those who serve.
Some
of Ohio’s largest events took place in Cincinnati, Columbus, and Washington
County. In SW Ohio, Mayor Whaley and Commissioner Foley came together for a
joint celebration of national service in Dayton and Montgomery County; a group
of Foster Grandparent volunteers were honored to sing the national anthem at
the event. Other celebration activities across the state included
visiting national service programs, hosting roundtables, issuing proclamations,
and communicating about national service through social media. By shining the
spotlight on the impact of service and thanking those who serve, local
officials hoped to inspire more residents to get involved in their communities.
