   Dear AmeriCorps Alum,
In August we announced a new and improved LinkedIn page for
AmeriCorps alums like you. This new page connects you
with employment opportunities at companies and organizations that value your
AmeriCorps service.
These companies and organizations are part of Employers of National Service, an initiative
President Obama announced to help connect AmeriCorps members with career
opportunities. Currently, this group includes more than 450 employers
representing millions of jobs; they are looking for employees with the skills
you will gain through AmeriCorps.
Here’s the catch though,—and the reason we need your help.
Nearly one million people have served in AmeriCorps since 1994,
yet we can only find about 90,000 LinkedIn users who list AmeriCorps in their
profile. That means employers— including Comcast and NBC Universal, Accenture,
MasterCard, Delta Air Lines, and numerous nonprofits, higher education
institutions and state, local and federal government agencies—searching for job
candidates who served in AmeriCorps cannot find people with experience like
yours.
Please take the following steps to help create a stronger
AmeriCorps network on LinkedIn:
Step 1: Make sure the word AmeriCorps is
under your employment history where you describe your service. (See tips below.)
Step 2: Now that the word AmeriCorps is in
your profile, follow the AmeriCorps LinkedIn page and get exclusive access to
announcements about job opportunities from Employers of National Service.
We will continue to be in touch as we build the AmeriCorps LinkedIn community—because you represent a powerful force for good, and we want potential employers to find you. Please help us spread the word by sharing the page through your social media channels and other appropriate networks using the links at the top of the message.
In Service,
Neill Minish AmeriCorps NCCC Alum 2007-08 Program Officer with the Corporation for National and Community Service
