 AmeriCorps Disaster Response Teams
(A-DRTs): AmeriCorps Disaster Response Teams (A-DRTs) have been responding
to the historic Missouri floods since December 29. In the first four days,
AmeriCorps St. Louis ERT members led 550 volunteers in filling and stacking
50,500 sandbags across multiple communities.
Since then,
additional A-DRTs have traveled to Missouri in partnership with Missouri State
Emergency Management and FEMA to coordinate and directly assist the cleanup
effort. To date, 144 A-DRT members and staff have mucked/gutted 276 structures,
removed 11,258 sandbags, conducted minor repairs on 52 homes, and treated 45
homes for mold. The field operations de-mobilized on March 1 and a small team
will continue supporting early recovery efforts until April 5. Response teams
include: AmeriCorps St. Louis ERT, Washington Conservation Corps, AmeriCorps
National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC), Conservation Corps of Minnesota &
Iowa, Hoopa Tribal Civilian Community Corps (TCCC), Volunteer Iowa, and Texas
Conservation Corps.

This
past December, West Virginia welcomed the newest class of WV
Disaster Corps members. Over 50 AmeriCorps members received orientation and
training for the program. The program trains volunteers in disaster response
and recovery. Members are deployed to assist during disasters and long-term
recovery. In 2015 members assisted with Winter Storm Thor, the Yeager
Landslide, spring flooding, and long-term recovery throughout the state.
