On September 25, 2026, Washington submitted a request for a new five-year Medicaid section 1115(a) demonstration entitled the "Washington State Traditional Health Care Practices Demonstration." This demonstration would authorize Medicaid coverage for traditional health care practices provided through or by a qualifying facility to eligible Medicaid and CHIP beneficiaries, with the goal to help support and sustain improved health, wellness, and well-being in Native communities in Washington. The federal comment period will be open from October 6, 2026 through November 5, 2026.
