The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) approved an amendment to the State of Washington’s section 1115 demonstration, “Medicaid Transformation Project 2.0.” This amendment gives the state authority to (1) provide coverage to former foster care youth under age 26, who turned 18 on or before December 31, 2022, who were in foster care under the responsibility of another state or tribe when they "aged out" of foster care at age 18 and were enrolled in Medicaid on the date of aging out of foster care; (2) provide continuous eligibility to Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) recipients up to age six through the end of the month of their sixth birthday; (3) expand the allowable facilities included in the state’s previously approved reentry demonstration initiative to include tribal jails; and (4) allow the state to receive reimbursement for designated state health programs which are otherwise state-funded, and not otherwise eligible for Medicaid payment.
