Upcoming Technical Assistance Opportunity for States Regarding the Development and Expansion of Innovative State Strategies to Provide Housing-Related Supports and Activities under Medicaid for Individuals with Substance Use Disorders

CMS is pleased to announce a technical assistance opportunity for states to develop and expand innovative state strategies to provide housing-related supports and activities under Medicaid for individuals with substance use disorders (SUD). This opportunity is made available under section 1018 of the SUPPORT Act which authorized the Secretary of Health and Human Services to “provide technical assistance and support to States regarding the development and expansion of innovative state strategies to provide Housing-Related Supports and Services and care coordination services under Medicaid to individuals with substance use disorders.”

The technical assistance opportunity includes:

  • A state needs assessment (a survey was distributed to state Medicaid agencies on July 15);
  • A Learning Collaborative for up to 10 states (Expression of Interest forms will be sent to state Medicaid agencies by August 10 with the Learning Collaborative running from fall 2020 through summer 2021); and
  • Nationally-focused webinars and issue briefs (to be held/disseminated over the next year)

Leveraging Managed Care for Substance Use Disorders: Examples of State Strategies to Enhance Medication-Assisted Treatment and Peer Support Services (August 25, 2020 Webinar)

 

The CMS Medicaid Innovation Accelerator Program’s (IAP) Reducing Substance Use Disorder (SUD) technical assistance team is hosting a national webinar on Tuesday, August 25, 2020 from 3:00PM-4:30PM ET focused on how Medicaid agencies can work with managed care organizations (MCOs) to improve SUD treatment access. Specifically, Medicaid agency staff from Tennessee and New Mexico will share how they work with MCOs on medication-assisted treatment programs and peer support services. This webinar is designed to encourage active participation with a portion reserved for a facilitated question-and-answer session.
