Today the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released a data refresh of the Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) Scorecard to reflect states’ progress in increasing their reporting of patients’ health outcomes, particularly related to behavioral health.

The first Scorecard released last year promoted a significant step to improve transparency and accountability through public reporting. The Scorecard includes measures, many that are voluntarily reported by states, as well as federally reported measures in three areas: (1) State Health System Performance; (2) State Administrative Accountability; and (3) Federal Administrative Accountability. For this data refresh, we have updated the national context and the State Health System Performance pillar pages with the most recently available data.

This data refresh comes amidst CMS’s ongoing efforts to transform Medicaid by fostering increased state flexibility, promoting accountability and ensuring program integrity for taxpayers.
