Why this occurred: You may have too high of an income to qualify for assistance next year, you chose not to allow HealthCare.gov to check tax data at renewal time, or you didn’t file federal income taxes using Form 8962 to reconcile your premium tax credit for a past year.
Here’s what you can do to get the assistance you need in 2025:
- You can file a tax return using Form 8962 to reconcile any tax credits you received in 2023 or earlier, if you haven’t done so already. Visit HealthCare.gov/taxes or IRS.gov/aca to learn more about reconciling tax credits you received to lower the amount you paid for monthly premiums.
- Make sure you have the right coverage for your needs and budget. Log in and update your application if you still need to take this step.
But don’t wait! If you don’t choose a new plan by December 15, you will be enrolled into a new Marketplace plan which may not have the financial assistance you previously received.
For more help, visit HealthCare.gov or call the Marketplace Call Center at 1-800-318-2596.
