Federal Tax Filing Deadline is on Tuesday, April 18

The deadline for all taxpayers to file and pay their federal income taxes is April 18, 2023. As the tax filing deadline approaches, some of your clients may reach out with specific questions regarding their Marketplace coverage and how it affects their taxes. You should also remind your clients that they must file their taxes and “reconcile” their 2022 premium tax credits (PTC).

You should remind your clients:

  • If they received advance payments of the premium tax credit (APTC) for 2022, they’ll have to file Form 8962 as part of the reconciliation process.
  • If consumers were enrolled in a qualified health plan without APTC for 2022, they can file Form 8962 to see if they qualify for PTC.
  • They may need to file an amended return if they already filed their 2022 taxes and didn’t reconcile APTC.

For detailed information regarding 2022 health coverage and federal taxes, check out the HealthCare.gov consumer tax guide. The HealthCare.gov Health Coverage Tax Tool is also a useful resource for helping consumers complete tax questions regarding their PTC. You may also refer to the Premium Tax Credits and Form 1095-A FAQs for Agents and Brokers to help you find answers to your top questions while assisting consumers during tax season.
