Steps to End 

a Marketplace Plan Online

Do you have clients who already have a Marketplace plan, and are turning 65 soon? Once they turn 65, they’ll be eligible to enroll in Medicare coverage without penalty. As a registered agent or broker, you can help your clients with this transition.

To end a Marketplace plan online, follow the instructions that best describe your client’s situation:

• If your client is the only member of the household enrolled on the Marketplace plan, he or she will simply cancel the Marketplace plan for the entire household.
• If your client and his or her spouse are both enrolled in the same Marketplace plan, but only the spouse needs to cancel due to getting Medicare, your client will end Marketplace coverage only for his or her spouse.
• If the spouse ending Marketplace coverage IS the household contact (usually the person who created the Marketplace account) see how to end coverage for the household contact.
• If the spouse being removed is NOT the household contact, see how to remove certain household members from a Marketplace plan.

Be sure that your clients don’t end their Marketplace plan before their Medicare coverage begins. Otherwise, they may experience a gap in coverage.
