From Marketplace to Medicare

According to the information on your 2016 Marketplace application, you or a member of your household receiving Marketplace coverage will turn 65 soon and may become eligible for Medicare.

In most cases you won’t want to keep your Marketplace plan because once your Medicare coverage starts, you’ll no longer be eligible for any premium tax credits or other cost savings you may be getting for your Marketplace plan.

To avoid an unwanted overlap in Marketplace and Medicare coverage, you can go online or call the Marketplace Call Center: 1-800-318-2596 (TTY: 1-855-889-4325) and tell us you want to end your Marketplace plan. Once you know the date your Medicare coverage will start, select the date for your Marketplace plan to end. Usually you’ll want your Marketplace coverage to end the day before your Medicare coverage starts.

Important:  To avoid an overlap in coverage, you must tell the Marketplace at least 15 days before the date you want your Marketplace coverage to end.
