We're happy to announce that the US Census Bureau has just released a variety of new API features for our developer community:

  • New ACS Summary Files and Data Profiles available via API for:
    • 2012 ACS 1-year
    • 2010 - 2012 ACS 3-year
    • 2008 - 2012 ACS 5-year
  • Economic Indicators available via API
    • The Economic Indicator Database is now available via the API. This database includes statistics, primarily at the national level, for measuring key sectors of the U.S. economy. Economists, policymakers, businesses, and other data users closely monitor these data to gauge the nation's economic well-being. Indicators include retail sales, new residential construction, manufacturers' shipments, and more. The Census Bureau produces 13 economic indicators, many of which are also used to generate more comprehensive measures of the economy, such as the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). • New Discovery Service (beta):
    • This is a beta release of our machine-readable dataset discovery service. The http://api.census.gov/data.json URI produces a JSON document describing all available datasets. The content of this JSON document is based largely on the Open Project Data Common Core Metadata Schema, and extended to include metadata specific to Census Bureau datasets. The http://api.census.gov/data.xml URI may be used to access the same information as XML
