💬 Question of the Month
How do I get started with my search?
You have two options to start your search on data.census.gov: 1) use the free-form single search bar or 2) use the filtering experience. Many results can be found through either option, but some complex searches are only available through the filter selections. Here are some tips on when to use single search vs. filters.
Single Search: Recommended for a quick statistic or to search a single code or table ID
You can combine multiple types of keywords in the same search. For example:
- Topic + Geography: “Poverty in Arizona”
- NAICS + Year + Geography: “711, 2012, All counties in Arizona”
Filters: Recommended for complex searches or to explore available options
Most detailed population groups and geographies with complex names are only available through filters.
Keep these tips in mind the next time you search on data.census.gov.
