We have two new workshops this month focused on economic data and the American Community Survey (ACS). Whether you're a returning participant or just getting started, there's something for everyone in our data.census.gov workshops.
We've made two small updates to improve your experience:
Improved guidance when data is missing: We now have an improved tip that suggests how to see data for more geographies.
When you click into tables from the American Community Survey 1-Year Estimates, you will now see a message that reads, “Missing data for your geographies? Try switching to ACS 5-Year Estimates instead. Learn More.”
New link to refreshed video tutorial on the landing page: We've added a new link to a refreshed version of our video tutorial, Getting Started with Your Search on data.census.gov. This video walks you through the basics of using the site, making it easier than ever to begin your search and find the data you need.
Stay tuned for more upgrades to improve speed and performance!
You have two options to start your search on the landing page of data.census.gov: a free-form single search bar or an advanced search filtering experience. Many results can be found through either experience, but some complex searches are only available with the advanced search. To help you get started, here's some guidance on when to use single search vs. advanced search.
Single search: This is recommended for a quick statistic or to search a single code or table ID. You can combine multiple types of keywords in the same search. For example:
Topic + Geography: “Poverty in Arizona”
NAICS + Year + Geography: “531, 2012, All counties in Arizona”
Advanced search: This is recommended for complex searches or to explore available options. Most detailed population groups and geographies with complex names are only available through the advanced search.
