The U.S. Census Bureau has completed the 2024Q4 release of Quarterly Workforce Indicators (QWI) data. QWI provide local labor market statistics by industry, worker demographics, firm age, and size. Explore release highlights below. 

Hires

In 2023Q3, there were 280,566 hires nationwide in the Construction industry (NAICS 23) for workers aged 25-34. This is a decrease of 5.03% from the same quarter last year.

West Virginia and New Mexico were among the states with the highest increase in hires in the Construction industry (NAICS 23) for workers aged 25-34.

Separations

In 2023Q3, there were 258,554 separations nationwide in the Construction industry (NAICS 23) for workers aged 25-34. This is a decrease of 5.65% from the same quarter last year.

Arkansas and Kentucky were among the states with the highest increase in separations in the Construction industry (NAICS 23) for workers aged 25-34.

The QWI are a set of economic indicators including employment, job creation, earnings, and other measures of employment flows. The QWI are reported based on detailed firm characteristics (geography, industry, age, size) and worker demographics (sex, age, education, race, ethnicity) and are available tabulated to national, state, metropolitan/micropolitan areas, county, and Workforce Investment Board areas.

The latest available National QWI data in the R2024Q4 release is 2023Q4, which lags the latest available state QWI data by one quarter. State QWI are released individually on a rolling basis throughout the calendar quarter with production expected to be completed by the last day of the quarter. In the event that data submission or data quality issues are encountered, QWI production for a state may be delayed or skipped for one or several quarters until the issue can be resolved.
