First Release of TIGER/Line GeoPackage Files
The U.S. Census Bureau is excited to announce the first release of TIGER/Line data in an Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) GeoPackage Encoding Standard format.
TIGER/Line GeoPackages are Open Geospatial Consortium Encoding Standard spatial extracts from the Census Bureau’s Master Address File/Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing (MAF/TIGER) System for use with geographic information systems (GIS) software. The GeoPackages contain national coverage (for geographic boundaries or features) or state coverage (boundaries within state).
These files do not include demographic or economic data but do contain geographic entity codes that can be linked to the Census Bureau’s demographic and economic data, available on data.census.gov.

Given the diversity of our population, our economic activities, and our geographic areas, use of the latest and best geographic methodologies is critical to the Census Bureau’s ability to serve as the leading provider of statistical and geospatial data. Our geographic area concepts, information, and statistical data must keep pace with the needs of the researchers and analysts who work to understand the changing distribution and characteristics of our people, places and economy.
