Next 2020 Census Data Products to be Released in 2023
Census Bureau Announces Schedule Updates for Demographic Profile, Demographic and Housing Characteristics File (DHC) and Detailed DHC
APRIL 27, 2022 — The U.S. Census Bureau today announced revised release dates for the next set of 2020 Census data products, starting with the release of the Demographic Profile and the Demographic and Housing Characteristics File (DHC) in May 2023.
Additionally, data previously planned for inclusion in the Detailed Demographic and Housing Characteristics File (Detailed DHC) will now be released as three separate products, with the first product scheduled for release in August 2023 and the schedules for the remaining products still being determined.
As we continue to develop the next set of 2020 Census data products, we wanted to provide an update on the schedule and next steps for the release of the Demographic Profile, the Demographic and Housing Characteristics File, and the Detailed DHC product.
Due largely to COVID-19 impacts on data collection, as well as the need for accurate processing and meeting confidentiality requirements, these data releases come later than the corresponding releases in the 2010 Census. Data yet to come from the 2020 Census are on detailed racial, ethnic, and American Indian and Alaska Native tribal and village population groups — such as German, Lebanese, Jamaican, Chinese, Native Hawaiian, Mexican and the Navajo Nation.
The 2020 Census will produce data for more detailed groups than ever before because of improvements made to the questionnaire design and coding processes.
