Today is Tuesday, January 25, 2022. This week, on Wednesday, January 26, we will celebrate National Spouses Day. Later in the week, we also celebrate the anniversaries of notable inventions: the first transcontinental phone call and the X-ray machine. We're sending you this quick update on what's coming up to keep you in the loop as you move through your week.

Wednesday is the little-known National Spouses Day. The origin is unknown, but it may have originated from the establishment of Military Spouses Day, which was created in 1984. The day is a national holiday in the United States and in the United Kingdom. Other countries celebrate it as well. This is a day for giving time rather than gifts, and celebrating your spouse. Couples are encouraged to spend alone time and to reflect on their journey so far.

In our population above the age of 15 years — some 264 million people —there are about 133 million married Americans, or just over half of the total. Conversely, there are nearly 45 million widowed, divorced, or separated Americans.
